The 4th of July is right around the corner and I’m sure you’re planning out your day of celebrating and day drinking. Oh, and of course appreciating our Independence…

You might be planning to host your own BBQ or crash a couple of friends BBQ’s or attend day parties in your city. Most likely, your plans will include A LOT of day drinking.

#turnupseason

I’m sure our forefathers would approve of these activities, but don’t let the day time fun cause you to miss out on one of the most important parts of this beautiful holiday: FIREWORKS!

How many of us have convinced ourselves that we can make it through a full day of intense drinking fun, only to be passed out 3 hours in? ::slowly raises hand:: There’s nothing worse than being “that guy/girl” who just can’t hang in for the long haul.

It happens, but we can overcome!

In order to help you make the most of this July 4th weekend, I’ve compiled 5 day drinking tips to make sure you can still see the evenings (sure to be gorgeous) firework display…and remember it the next day.

5 Day Drinking Tips for this July 4th Weekend

1. Water is your BFF

Repeat after me: “Water is key.” ::DJ Khaled voice:: This should be your #1 mantra for the entire July 4th weekend.

If you want to make it for the long haul, have a glass of water after every one or two drinks. This will not only keep you hydrated (important for the next day hangover) but will also help you consciously pace yourself for the day. Before you know it, it will be 9:00p.m. and you’ll still be standing.

2. Avoid too many shots, shots, shots

I know, I know, shots are fun and all, but they are also the quickest way to getting nasty drunk. Might as well stay home because you’ll be calling it a day by 2:00p.m. That’s pretty lame!

You can absolutely enjoy a few shots here and there, but always revert back to tip #1 above, and limit yourself for the day.

3. Don’t mix your liquor

Ever heard of the saying “liquor before beer, you’re in the clear?” Not sure that’s true, but you know what does definitely keep you in the clear? Staying away from downing tequila, then vodka shots, then jungle juice etc. Not only will you likely pass out before the sun sets trying this, but you’ll probably also find yourself sick as hell!

Pick your poison (maybe two) and stick with it!

4. EAT!

Some might say “I can drink on an empty stomach,” but can they last all day on an empty one? Don’t think so.

Take some time out during the day and grab a bite to eat. You don’t have to fill yourself up, but having something of substance in your stomach can help slow the alcohol absorption in your system. It wont keep you sober, but it will help you power through into the wee hours of the morning.

This tip can also be used as an excuse to indulge in many of the great BBQ food staples with less guilt. So eat up!

5. Don’t be afraid to take a break

I can assure you that you will still retain your cool factor if you take a break from drinking at one point during the day. It can be a quick two hours if that’s all you’re willing to give up, but show your body you care, and let it have a break.

I’m sure there are many more tips that can be added to this list. Hopefully these 5 will help you reach your day drinking goals this weekend, and live to tell about it!
