While DC offers plenty to do on the weekends, sometimes a girl just needs a quick getaway from the familiar hustle and bustle. AmIright?

The D.C. area is in a prime location that allows for its residents to access some of the BEST beaches, cities, and foodtopias on the east coast. So, since I love a. travel b. food and c. beaches, I’m starting a new “Weekend Getaway” series here on Cupcakes & Caviar!

To kick us off, allow me to (re)introduce you to Ocean City, MD.

I’ve been to Ocean City three times, and stayed in three different places, and I have to say that Windjammer is my favorite place, so far. It’s in an ideal location, right on the beach, and very affordable. Probably one of the most affordable places to rest your head in the area! It comes furnished, with a kitchen that comes stocked with all of your cooking necessities. It’s also family owned (shop small 🙂 )!

Summer Beach comes in at a really strong second. I stayed here with a group of friends for my bachelorette weekend, and it was perfect! If you are traveling with a group of friends or your family, this is a great rental. The condos are spacious, semi-modern, right on the beach and come stocked with kitchen supplies, linens, towels, etc. It’s walking distance to the boardwalk, has plenty of parking and is a quick drive or bus ride to the some of the areas best bars and restaurants.

Oh Seacrets, so many many memories. It is by far one of the best bars, restaurants and clubs in Ocean City, MD. It’s like stepping out of the U.S. and into a Caribbean beach location. Many bars try to live up to it, but they just don’t make the cut.

Pain in De Ass

Food is good (slightly expensive), drinks are strong (my favorite are the “Pain in De Ass” or the “Big Bamboo” both rum drinks. Yum!), and the atmosphere is LIT as all hell!! You can easily spend your entire day here. Live bands & DJs play throughout the day on one of their four stages and during the day, feel free to enjoy the sounds and your cocktails as you float or splash in the water.

Can you tell I’m a fan?

BOARDWALK
12th Street – Inlet Park, Ocean City, MD
http://www.ocboards.com/

The boardwalk is a must stop while in Ocean City. Lined with stores, restaurants, bars, ferris wheel and much in between, it’s easy to spend a few hours here. Many other sites will tell you not to leave until you try the Thrashers boardwalk fries but I say “eh!” ::shrugs:: They were definitely good but not good enough to spend all day hunting for (which I did 🙁 ) However, if you happen to pass by, definitely stop and try them because, well, fries are always a good choice! If you get tired from walking, hop on the tram for $3.00. It will take you all the way up and/or down the boardwalk.

If you are looking for a “classier” night, and I mean beach classy not city classy, then Skye Bar is your spot. It is Ocean City’s only rooftop bar, so expect some really beautiful views of the sunset (so romantic). They have live music every night and $1 oysters during happy hour DAILY!!!

Ya’ll!!!!!! Dem crabs tho??! I kicked myself for not getting any pics the night we tried this place, but I was so hungry I just dug right in! Sorry not sorry. Make sure you get there early because they run out of crabs fast. We arrived at 8:00p.m. and they were almost all gone. They are also decently priced and beer is only $3!!!!!!

Located on the boardwalk, this restaurant makes for a nice break from the beach or shopping. They have good steampots, and burgers. You really come here for the atmosphere and drinks. They serve their drinks strong! Make sure to get the rum punch bucket and thank me lata.

I have to admit that I have not tried Embers yet, but I had to add it to this list because I want to go every time I visit OC and for some damn awful reason I never make it (end rant). However, I hope one of my dear readers will try it and report back on its awesomeness. Embers is an all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant and is one of the best in Ocean City and for only $35.99 per person. Thank the seafood buffet gods!
