I know Jay-z just dropped his 4:44 album today, and you’re probably preoccupied with listening to it for the fourth time already, but I need ya’ll to pay attention to something else dropping today: The Ugly Mug’s new and improved menu!

OK OK, it didn’t officially drop today, but I was recently invited to try some new items from the menu and I’m letting you in on all of the yummy details today so it’s basically the same thing.

The Ugly Mug

The Ugly Mug is located in the Southeast Waterfront area of Washington DC. Its close proximity to Nationals Stadium makes it a great pre or post game venue! No ticket to the game? That’s OK because they also have a ton of TV’s, great cocktails, beer and plenty of food to keep you comfortable while you watch the Nats.

The space at The Ugly Mug is fairly large, with a couple of beautiful wall murals that give homage to DC, and a great rooftop area. The misting fans on the rooftop are also a great touch! It would be great for an event as there is room for privacy if you only needed a few tables, but they can also rent out the entire space as well.

The menu is a creation that came from a collaboration with Food Network star Alex McCoy. It’s filled with many classic comfort food favorites, like burgers, wings and a large selection of pizzas. The Ugly Mug’s Chef Mark Eason is most proud of the pizzas because the dough is delicious and everything is made fresh daily. After trying one, I can co-sign. You know I love my pizza!

Now on to the important things…

FOOD RUNDOWN

Chicken Schnitzel – (could have been seasoned a little more, but overall pretty good!)

Ugly Mug

Mambo Sauce Wings (Mambo sauce is a DC staple!)

Classic Buffalo Wings

My Cousin Vinny Pizza – Sausage, roasted fennel, chilis and rabe (I personally prefer a pizza with cheese, but this is great for those who love pizza but can’t have dairy 🙂 )

DRG Burger – Smoked cheddar, bacon, arugula, caramelized onion, DRG sauce and pickles (this was my favorite!!!)

Peruvian Chicken Sandwich – Peruvian spice chicken breast, pickled cabbage, provolone and cilantro jalapeño mayonnaise

Pulled Pork Sliders – (Another Chef Eason favorite)

Coconut Pie

Apple Pie a la Mode – (A classic! What is better than warm apple pie and ice cream? Nothing!!)

I definitely want to head back to The Ugly Mug soon, especially to try their brunch menu, and I suggest you do too. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, space is comfortable and the food is good!

Special shout out to Colin who took excellent care of us! See ya next time!
