When I first moved to Alexandria, my first night out was in Old Town. I quickly fell head over heels for its small town feel and festive light’s that adorned the main streets. Near the water, tucked away down one of Old Town’s many cobblestone streets you’ll find Union Street Public House.
If you ever happen to take a trip out to Old Town and want to know where the “locals” hang, Union Street Public House is your spot. It’s a hop, skip and a jump away from the water, is housed in a renovated colonial warehouse, and is close to all the activities on King Street.
My husband and I visit pretty often either for a late night drink, to catch a game on Sunday or for dinner. The beauty of Union Street Public House is that it’s perfect for all three! Their bar section has a large bar, plenty of tv’s, lot’s of seating space and beers on tap that’ll please everyone. They also have some of the friendliest bartenders who also know how to make a stiff drink! Which is usually all a girl really needs amirite?
If you’re staying for dinner, then you have the choice of enjoying fresh oysters in their oyster bar, or a table in either of their two dining rooms. Let’s talk about their oysters…lawd dem oysters! Their raw oysters are served by the 1/2 or full dozen, and they also have fried oysters and Wally’s Oysters with Bacon (pictured below). It’s a damn oyster heaven! Besides those little shelled gems though, they offer many other fresh seafood options as well as options for you land lovers.
Most recently, my husband and I stopped in for some small plates and a night-cap. Here’s what went down:
House Smoked Wings
Calamari
Wally’s Oysters with Bacon
Lobster Mac & Cheese
Overall, Union Street Public House offers a great atmosphere, friendly staff and consistently good eats!
