This weekend my Octoberfest activities brought me to Broooooklyynnn (Biggie voice)!
On Saturday September 26th The Village Voice hosted their 5th Annual Brooklyn Pour beer festival at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. There were over 100 breweries from the tri-state area showcasing some tasty seasonal, micro and reserve brews. It was a beer lovers playground and probably one of the most fun beer festivals I’ve attended. There were contests, games, music provided by Q104.3 and FOOD! Lots of yummy food that was available for purchase. One of the highlights for me was the souvenir tasting glass. It’s definitely one of the largest tastings glasses I’ve ever received at a beer festival and I’m not gonna lie, I was scared! How was I going to try all of the beers without passing out?? The breweries also did not hold back with their pours. I made it, but it was difficult. Shout out to Village Voice for knowing that bigger is better!
Some of my favorite breweries in attendance were:
I think I came back for like 3 tastings of the Allagash White.
Hands down my favorite beer at the festival! Their Alpha Male IPA was on point. IPA’s can sometimes be too hoppy for me but this was just perfect.
The Intensified Coffee Porter was no bueno for me. I love coffee but not a big fan of porters. I was hopeful the combination would make me fall in love, but it didn’t ::sigh:: The Defender IPA though delicious!
All hail Heartland’s Smiling Pumpkin Ale. Hands down the best one presented at the festival. I know I know, Pumpkin Ale’s are normally frowned upon, but this is one you really cant resist. I was also told that if you head to one of their breweries ask for the “Stumpkin.” Its a mix of their Stout and Pumpkin Ale and it’s apparently not to be missed. You’re Welcome!
Overall it was an awesome event! We won tickets to Fuerza Bruta, I competed in a Stein Heist contest with Samuel Adams ( I came in 3rd!) and we ate some awesome empanadas from Nuchas Empanadas. Can’t wait for the next one!
