Campbell Avenue in Shirlington reminds me of the little sister who tries so hard to be as cool as her trendy big city older sister, but like in a sweet endearing way. It’s lined with restaurants and shops perfect for families, date night, or a quiet girls night out. It sits about 15 minutes from the DC line, so it caters to those who want a classy night out without having to travel into DC or over to the turned up Clarendon area.
On Campbell Avenue sits the Carlyle. An american bistro serving classic no frills dishes, with two floors of seating space and a large bar. It perfects the “classy casual” ambiance at a level that I have yet to witness anywhere else in this area of Virginia.
Food at Carlyle was pretty basic. Nothing really stood out to me as “omg I have to tell all of my friends about this beautiful magical dish,” but it did it’s job and left me satisfied. Don’t expect tons of Instragram worthy dishes, just come expecting a good meal, and really good service. Their martinis are definitely clutch though. Get the limoncello martini. Just trust me.
I would definitely recommend Carlyle for a quiet mid-week date night or for a drink and apps with that girlfriend you haven’t seen in years so you need a quiet table in the corner to catch up.
